Are You Interesting?

The Art of Applying is solely owned by one person—me. Between moving to Los Angeles from Boston, shopping for a new car, trying to learn French, and having a personal life, I am one busy woman. I have decided to focus my time on the clients that will have the most fun with personalized coaching. I call these types of clients interesting people.

By interesting people, I mean:

  • Someone who is not necessarily a “shoe-in”. Take MBA programs for example. I love to work with college seniors, people who have non-traditional or no full-time work experience, or those who have been working for a long time (5 years or more) and want help crafting the story for why they are going back to school. I believe that education is one of the most important ways for people to have access to greater opportunities in life. I’m passionate about helping people gain access to opportunities that they dream about but seem a little out of their reach.
  • Someone who has a great story to tell. This one is kind of cheating, because I think that all people have a great story to tell. However, I work best with people who are willing to open up and really let me get to know them. That’s how I can best help you figure out which nuggets of your personal story you may have left out of your application. We don’t need to take long walks on the beach together to get to know one another. This will develop over time through our phone and video strategy sessions.
  • Someone who wants a hands-on experience. Sometimes, you just want someone to quickly look over your essays and give you some quick feedback. I get it, and I provide last-minute quick reviews for those who want that kind of experience. However, the bulk of my work is focused on long-term relationships with clients over several months. We work together and get to know each other throughout the entire process, and I’m there pushing you and guiding you every step of the way—like a track coach training a marathon runner.
  • Someone who is willing to put in the work. This is similar to the last point. I’m an essay coach—not a full-service admissions consultant. That means that you will have to do a lot of the work of applying yourself. It means that sometimes, I’ll be telling you what to do next in the process instead of just listening one-sidedly to what you say you want. For example, if I come across a really great article about storytelling that I think will really help you in writing your essays, I’m going to send it to you and expect you to read it. One thing you can be sure about is that once you’ve paid for my time, you won’t be nickled and dimed to pay for anything else—like “insider guides” or anything like that. I want the best for my clients, and once you are my client, you get the whole sha-bam.

So now that you know what I consider “interesting”, tell me…
