
Carlos R. Hernández is an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University (WSU) with a dual appointment in the Department of History and the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies. He earned his Ph.D. from Yale University and is now finishing his book for tenure. His research focuses on the development of tourism in contemporary Mexico, and his work has been supported by numerous grants and fellowships. He has also written several scholarly articles that either appeared in premier journals or are currently under peer review.
While in graduate school, Carlos worked at Yale’s Graduate Writing Lab for nearly five years. Among other roles, he advised hundreds of candidates from all types of backgrounds applying to the world’s best graduate programs in almost every imaginable discipline: business, law, and medicine; science, technology, and engineering; the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. He has successfully coached many MBA, MPA, MPP, JD, MD, MFA, MM, MS, MA, and PhD applicants. Some of his former clients are now junior faculty members at Ivy League institutions, while others have become surgeons, attorneys, orchestral musicians, political consultants, and entrepreneurs. They can be found in every continent of the world, including Antarctica!
As a consultant, Carlos tailors his approach to every client. He believes the application process for any program is a matter of strategy, and that everyone has a story to tell. His clients include domestic and international applicants, people with special needs, and Un/DACAmented students.
Carlos currently lives in Dallas. He is fully fluent in Spanish and partially fluent in French and Portuguese. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, reading, and traveling the world with his wife.
